Ohio ASM John Haugns, W8STX, of Cincinnati, is Silent Key

It is with great sadness that I must report to all of you that Ohio Assistant Section Manager and former Section Manager, John Haungs, W8STX, died Saturday afternoon of heart problems. He was 87. All of amateur radio's community wishes to extend condolences to his wife, Betty, and the entire Haungs family. A memorial service is Friday, May 16.

John gave more than four decades of his life to the service of amateur radio. He was long time financial officer (more than three decades) of at least six ham radio organizations in the Cincinnati area. For that and numerous other services to the hobby, John was named a recipient of the Allen Severson AB8P Memorial award in 2005.

He served the Ohio Section as assistant Section Manager from 1982-1988 and again from 1990 until the present. He was elected Section Manager from 1988 to 1990.
There will be a memorial service for John Haungs, W8STX, (SK) at 11 a.m. Friday, May 16, at the Christ Church of Glendale. He will be cremated.

A special Amateur Radio Memorial Service for John Haungs, W8STX, (SK) has been scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, 7 p.m. at The Christ Church of Glendale. The family, community leaders of Evendale and members of the Christ Church are welcomed as well. The Rev. Richard Foote, of Christ Church, will officiate.  The special Memorial Service is scheduled due to the conflict of the May 16 Memorial Service and the Dayton Hamvention. Many of John's friends and associates have year long commitments to Hamvention this Friday and will be unable to attend.
